Path Within Therapy
Mitko Lambov, English-speaking relationship therapist in Amsterdam
About me

Hello, I'm Mitko.

I'm an English-speaking therapist based in Amsterdam, supporting relationships and individuals — especially expats and LGBTQ+ people — as they navigate relationships, identity, and emotional stuckness.

A bit about me

I was born in 1978 in Bulgaria, during a time of constant political and social change. Growing up in the final years of communism and through the country's transition to democracy, I became very aware of how environments shape people — how uncertainty, hope, and adaptation all coexist in everyday life. Those early experiences taught me resilience, curiosity, and the ability to listen closely to what lies beneath the surface of change.

I went on to complete my degree in Psychology at Sofia University. In the early 2000s, I moved to the United Kingdom and experienced the life of an immigrant for the first time. Studying and living in Scotland and England, I had to navigate many different and sometimes conflicting parts of myself. I learned to integrate my home and adopted cultures, languages, and identities — including coming into my own as a gay man.

In 2016 I moved yet again and settled in Amsterdam, where I now share a home with my husband.

My journey to becoming a therapist is not dissimilar to that of many others who have navigated moments of rupture and growth. After years spent working in communications, a painful and complicated breakup at the start of the COVID pandemic brought me back to my roots in psychology and pushed me to go deeper. I found myself drawn to relationship theory, attachment science, and the deeper questions of how we connect and repair.

The experience of being vulnerable and alone, and choosing to grow through it, changed me. It's also what led me to further training in Non-Violent Communication and Emotionally Focused Therapy, and ultimately to creating Path Within Therapy.

I provide therapy in English in Amsterdam, and I can use Italian and Dutch conversationally.

In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?
